ABERDEEN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT HISTORY
Aberdeen International Airport opened in 1934 as a way to link the northern islands of Scotland with London. The airfield became a Royal Air Force station during World War II, however nothing remains from the war era at the airport due to expansion.
Helicopter operations began at the airport in 1967 with the discovery of North Sea oil, making Aberdeen the largest oil-related center in Europe and Aberdeen International Airport becoming the world’s largest commercial heliport.
