History
General Juan N Alvarez Airport was one of the first international airports to be built in Mexico and symbolised the growing economy of the Acapulco region in southern Mexico.
The airport was named after Juan Nepomuceno Alvarez Hurtado, a general in the Mexican army during the Mexican-American War and the War of Reform against the French. He was also interim president of Mexico for a short period in 1855.
In the 1960s, a new general aviation terminal was built to handle all corporate air traffic alongside the main terminal.
