History

The airport was built in 1960s, and by 1970 it became the first international airport to serve the UAE capital. The airport served this roll until 1982, when the current Abu Dhabi International Airport was opened.

Al Bateen Executive Airport then served primarily as a military base up until 2008 when it was taken over by the Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC). The airport was then transformed into a dedicated private aviation hub.

Since 2008, the airport has undergone substantial upgrades including the construction of luxurious passenger lounges and an onsite hotel, providing some of the best facilities available in the region.
