History
The idea for the airport surfaced in the late 1950s. The city of Arlington sold land intended for an airport, and used the income from the sale alongside a grant from the FAA to buy the land where the airport is currently situated.
By 1962 the airport was completed encompassing over 300 acres of land with a 4000 foot runway. In the 1980s the City of Arlington made improvements to the airport including a runway extension.
The FAA eventually designated the airport as a reliever airport for Dallas Fort Worth and Dallas Love Field Airports.
