DUPAGE AIRPORT HISTORY
DuPage airport was built on a farm. It was first used for air traffic in 1927, when aircraft landed on its grass fields. The U.S. Navy later used the airport in 1941 during the Second World War to train pilots. After the war, an additional runway and a brand new control tower were added to the airport.
DuPage later went through two major phases of expansion. First in the early 1980s, to accommodate increasing demands for air traffic and again in the early 1990s. The airport’s first FBO, DuPage Flight Center, opened in 1993 and continues to operate 24 hours a day. The second runway 2R/20L was extended to 6,433 feet during 2012.
