Lansing Municipal airport is famous for being the home of the Ford Company’s Hangar, which was built in 1926 for assembling Ford tri-motor aircraft. The airport was once known as Chicago-Hammond Airport, before being acquired by the village where it takes its name in 1976. This acquisition was followed by expansion in order to match the facilities of rival airports.
