Gerald R. Ford International Airport History

Gerald R. Ford International Airport was and opened in 1919. The airport underwent several expansions before construction began for an airport in a new location which opened in 1963 and was known as Kent County Airport.

A new runway construction was completed in 2001 and the passenger terminal modernised a year earlier.
