Isle of Man Ronaldsway Airport History
Passenger services from the airfield at Ronaldsway first started operating in 1933.During World War II the airfield was used by the Royal Air Force and was known as RAF Ronaldsway, however it still operated civilian flights throughout the war.
The airfield was expanded by the Royal Navy including four new runways, and was known as HMS Urley. After the war, the airport began civilian flights once more.
Today, the Manx Military and Aviation Museum next to the airport gives locals and tourists the island’s aviation history.A new extension was opened in 2000, which included a new arrivals area and departure lounge.
