HISTORY OF NASHVILLE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

Nashville International Airport was dedicated on November 1st, 1936 and was previously known as Berry Field, named after Col. Harry S. Berry, the Tennessee administrator for the Works Progress Administration. During WW2 it was requisitioned by the U.S. Army and expanded by 1500 acres and later after the war given back to the city with some facilities remaining to the Tennessee national guard.

In 1958 it planned for expansion and achieved it in the same year, then later in the 1970s plans for a long term expansion took place with final completion of construction in 1987 within this time it was renamed to Nashville International Airport and followed with the construction of another runway in 1989.
