Newark International Airport History

Newark Airport opened in 1928 and was used by the United States Army during World War II. Commercial airlines returned to the airport in 1946 and in 1948 new hangars, a new terminal and runway were built. The airport was renamed as Newark International Airport in the 1970s and new terminals A and B were opened, with Terminal C being opened much later in 1988.The airport underwent major expansion works during the 1980s.
