History

The first flight to take place at Lelystad airport was in 1971, but the airport was not officially recognized until 1973.

At first the airport just had grass taxi and runways, and was often closed due to poor conditions of the terrain. In 1978, the first of the taxiways was hardened and in 1981 the runway was hardened.

The Aviodrome museum moved to Lelystad Airport in 2003 and due to the museum, various aviation events are frequently held at the airport.
